It Takes two to Tango

  By; Molley Obbu

“It Takes 2 to Tango” is an adage that is not new. The question is, how many of us have bothered to look at the deeper meaning of the word ‘TANGO’? “Tango literally, is a dance that originated in the 1890s along the Río de la Plata, the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay and soon spread to the rest of the world. It is a dance which requires two (a couple) to be able to dance in a harmonious rhythm. This dance is one of very few that is purely reactional, such that the step of one (Dancer) determines that of the other, which is why indeed; “it takes two to Tango”.

Just like the Tango Dance, there are some actions in our lives that can only occur when there are two persons in a perfect rhythm. For instance, It takes two to make babies; it takes two to marry or wed; it takes two to break up or divorce; suffice to say it also takes two to fight or make up. However for the purpose of this talk; we will be dwelling on how “it takes two to build or break” as it relates to relationships and marriages.

As is popularly quoted from the good book, “a good woman builds her home”. This is a quote that has become so misunderstood and misinterpreted to mean that the building or breaking of the home lies with the wife. Well, I beg to disagree. Yes, the good book places the “making” of a home in the hands of the wife. This pre-supposes that a man may own a beautiful house but cannot make it a home until he finds a wife, which is the larger part of the “good thing”. Note that I did not say; “until he is marries a woman”. This is because a man can be married to a woman who does not turn out to be a wife. What I am saying therefore is that it takes a wife and not just any woman, who is in perfect rhythm with the husband, to make a home. A home is borne of the magic touch of a wife's loving hands and heart. However, while some women can turn a beautiful house into a “hell hole”, there are others who can actually.....................TO BE CONTINUED
